All Change!

As you may have seen while poking your head through the door, I’ve heavily revamped the front of the site. There’s a number of reasons for this – this blog is practically hostile to mobile users, HTML redirects are no longer big and clever, and frankly, I was bored.

While I was at it, I’ve also been making a whole ass-load of games and crap with The Shadsy and friends o-er at 300 Pounds. The most interesting of which is Reelism, arguably my most ambitious Doom mod yet (and it’s only getting better…)

And now that I’ve gotten this out of the way, I no longer have an excuse for my abysmal blogging schedule. Riiiight?

Stupid Dream Watch

I was a cop, but not just ANY cop. I was a LOOSE CANNON who DIDN’T PLAY BY THE RULES. Which is to say, I kept letting everyone go because seriously, fuck all that paperwork. Way too much effort to care about.

This is probably my subconscious mind telling me not to go into Law Enforcement, and maybe to watch more Law and Order. Done and done, subconscious mind.

Boxing CleverBoxing Clever
As it turns out, Boxer is a pretty awesome OSX app. It’s basically DOSbox with an intergrated frontend that blends in with OSX very well. If you’re using OSX and have the half-brained idea of playing games on it, I highly recommend it!

I Have OPINIONS About HTML5

Webkit on Left, Every Goddamn Thing Else On Right

Webkit on Left, Every Goddamn Thing Else On Right

HTML5 is… concerning to me.  Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not cheerleading rickety old proprietary technologies like Flash just to be contrary or out of a misplaced sense of nostalgia, and I’m probably horribly wrong about a number of things (most of my time spent thinking about this topic has been while very drunk around web developers), but there are a number of clear problems with HTML5 as it stands today that trouble me and make me wonder whether the big step forward in internet development is accompanied by two steps backward…

Macbook Air Wallpapers

Recently I finally joined the mad throngs of rabid cultists, unshaven hipsters, coffee-shop residents and other people Linux users find REALLY annoying to pick up my first Apple computer, one of the new Macbook Airs. It’s really rather nice, and quite a bit nicer to use and lug around than my battered old Acer laptop.

Since I love customizing EVERYTHING I have, I decided to hack together a nice set of Mac-themed wallpapers, to match my retro computing-themed wallpapers on my Windows PC. They’re based on classic ads, Susan Kare’s prints of her wonderful pixelwork for OS Classic, and old OSX desktops (I’m not happy with my attempts to extend these to fit a widescreen resolution, so YMMV). They’re all 1440×900 PNGs intended to appear at native size on a 13-inch Macbook Air, so if your machine has a higher res screen, they might appear a bit crap.

Don’t worry Windows-ites, I plan on releasing a similar pack covering classic Windows/Amiga/ST/other classic computer OSes soon. Not too sure about Linux, though. Maybe if i get ESPECIALLY bored.

Apologies for the lack of posting. AGAIN. Things have been a wee bit hectic lately. I have a lot to post about though, so hopefully things should pick up.

D-Fend Icon Pack: Update

Would, Would, Would, Would...A while back, I released a set of icons for a DOSbox frontend called D-Fend Reloaded. Recently, I got a message from a friendly German fellow called Dan, who asked whether he could add to the collection. I said “Sure”, and he apparently went ballistic, upping the collection from 124 to a whopping 332! I like to imagine that he’s some sort of a robot, where punchcards go in and PNGs come out.

Hope you enjoy! Again, feel free to pass this along to anyone you think would find use in it! And again, a huge thanks to Dan for being an icon-making Juggernaut!

Shaking Off The Cobwebs

Hello, exam season! Hello, lack of posts!

I’ve been busy over the past few weeks losing sleep over assignments and impending exams, so apologies for the radio silence. I have, however, managed to keep FrankenHUD up to date, so there’s that I suppose.

So how about that DNF, huh? I checked out the demo, and intend on posting detailed thoughts once I’ve sat in front of the full game, but I’ve found it rather fun, if obviously a bit dated and janky.

More soon!

Monopoly: The Dot Com Version… Ten Years On

For some reason I’m addicted to making infographics lately. Except they’re less informative and more crap. But you know, someone might be interested in them! Somewhere. Here’s my newest one! It’s about Monopoly and the dot-com bubble, united at last! Continue Reading

D-Fend Icon Pack

Lookit All Dem Icons...I don’t know about you, but I loves me some DOSbox. And I also loves me some D-Fend Reloaded since I’m lazy and command lines bore the hell out of me. One day, while bored, I decided to snaz up my collection with a big set of custom icons, and set about beavering away to accomplish this.

This pack contains 124 64×64 Windows icons for the games in my little collection, plus a Photoshop file so you can make your own, plus a slightly modified version of this page’s background because it looked nice and I was too lazy to do anything different.

Hope you enjoy! Feel free to pass this along to anyone you think would find use in it!

Stupid Dream Watch

This morning my train line was messed up, so I couldn’t take the train in to attend classes and as such worked at home. At one point I nodded off and fell asleep in my chair at my desk, and started dreaming about falling asleep on the train I would have taken had the train line been working properly. The human mind is goddamn crazy.
