Yesterday I went off to see Watchmen. Since basically every man and his dog is discussing it, I’ll give a quick rundown of my feelings on it.

• Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson and Jeffery Dean Morgan absolutely nail it. I thought Billy Crudup was perhaps a little too quiet, and sometimes a little tricky to make out in the soundtrack. The internet seems to have a lot of hate for the two Silk Spectres, but they seemed find to me.
• Some of the changes worked great (The evidence room scene in the prison, for example) while others were kind of corny (the alleyway fight scene is pretty over the top).
• The very-controversial new ending (no squid )works surprisingly well! While it misses some of the visual spectacle of the first few pages of the final chapter of the book, it holds it’s own very well.

Overall, it’s probably the best adaption that could possibly be made of Watchmen, except perhaps the upcoming director’s cut.
